Editors’ Picks: Most Romantic Getaways in Houston
No need to pack a gift for your special someone because these gorgeous properties are enough to earn you brownie points for the next three anniversaries. Find your favorite and get to booking!
1. The San Luis Resort & Spa
One of our favorite things about Houston? It’s the best of both worlds! Fast-paced city living, AND you’re just an hour away from Galveston Island’s salty ocean air, colorful boardwalks, and long, sandy beaches.
At the San Luis Resort & Spa, each day starts with watching the waves and sipping coffee together on your private, beach-view balcony.
From there, head for a couples treatment at Spa San Luis, which has a handful of tantalizing options to choose from.
The “Let’s Fall in Love” package treats you to a body mousse massage, while the “Salt Air Experience” takes place in a breezy open-air gazebo. Of course, champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries are included.
Spend the afternoon cuddled up in a private poolside cabana, complete with a mini-fridge, flat-screen TV, fruit platter, personal cocktail server, and more.
As for accommodation, we recommend reserving a suite on the Club Ten adults-only floor, which showers you with additional perks such as complimentary valet parking, VIP priority seating at the onsite romantic restaurants, and a mini-bottle of Prosecco on arrival. Cheers!
2. The Frenchie
Few things scream “I love you” like a charming boutique hotel, so it’s no wonder The Frenchie has a special place in our hearts when it comes to romantic getaways near Houston.
To get here, drive 1.5 hours outside the big city to the oh-so-adorable tiny town of Round Top, Texas.
Although its population hovers below 100, Round Top has become a popular day-trip destination for antique shopping, homemade pies, and local wine.
Located within walking distance of the picturesque downtown streets, The Frenchie is a historic landmark in its own right.
The property encompasses an 1890s farmhouse and cottage, plus newer additions of an art studio and several pool bungalows.
The romantic activities are practically unlimited: Slip away to the spa, a secluded space at the edge of the property, for couples massages. Cuddle up under fairy lights and starry night skies at one of the fire pits. Soak in the hot tub surrounded by lush lawns.
For a date night guaranteed to send sparks flying, schedule a 3-5 course, chef-driven meal at a candlelit outdoor table set just for two.
Or let The Frenchie organize an exclusive wine-tasting tour featuring three local wineries.
3. Hyatt Regency
As much as we love a road trip, some of the best romantic getaways in Houston are found right within the city center!
So for modern comforts, incredible cuisine, and beautiful views, look no further than the Hyatt Regency.
Perfectly placed in the heart of downtown, this location offers easy access to attractions like Discovery Green and the Theater District.
In the hotel itself, you can enjoy an intimate dinner at Shula’s Steak House, a couples workout in the well-equipped fitness center, or a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool.
4. The Woodlands Resort
When dreaming up romantic getaways in Houston, the Woodlands is definitely one of the first neighborhoods to come to mind. Award-winning entertainment, upscale shopping, and sprawling parks abound.
And The Woodlands Resort, an enchanting oasis complete with a waterpark, arcade, two championship golf courses, and 21 tennis courts, feels right at home in this luxurious accommodation.
There are plentiful accommodation options, but we recommend one of the suites on the adults-only floor.
The Canopy Balcony King includes a stunning private terrace, a spacious living area, and arguably the comfiest bed you’ll ever lay your head on.
Tired of the standard “candlelit dinner and a movie” date night? Try the resort’s 1-hour, beginner-friendly goat yoga session, or rent a pair of kayaks and go for a paddle around the tranquil lake.
5. La Copa Inn Beach Hotel
What’s more romantic than a beach vacation? For this Houston getaway, head 6 hours south of the city to the stunning beach town of South Padre Island.
After your long drive, check straight into an oceanfront king suite. Whether you’re admiring the view of the waves, brewing a fresh cup of coffee, or soaking in the oversized jetted bath, these rooms have every amenity you need.
Take things a step further with the romance package, which includes a bottle of champagne, chocolate-dipped strawberries, decorative swan towels, and your choice between a floral bouquet or a trail of rose petals leading deeper into your spacious suite.
Kick off each day of your stay with a complimentary hot meal featuring made-to-order omelets and breakfast tacos, then head for the resort pool.
Just beyond the swimming area, you’ll find a boardwalk that meanders over the dunes and straight to a pristine stretch of seashore. Are you swooning yet?
6. Hilton Americas
Adjacent to Discovery Green and the Toyota Center, few romantic getaways in Houston boast as convenient a downtown location as Hilton Americas.
The onsite Skyline Spa & Health Club provides a tranquil space to get pampered before date night. Opt for couples treatments or go your separate ways and then reconvene feeling fresh from head (signature facial) to toe (classic pedicure).
While you’re there, you can also spoil yourselves with the infinity edge lap pool, whirlpool, and health club equipment.
Then, snag a table for two at 1600 Bar and Grille, an upscale casual restaurant that dishes up farm-to-fork freshness with every bite.
The sweetest way to end every evening is at Hilton’s 24th-floor rooftop lounge, cheers-ing to your love over signature cocktails and stunning views of the city skyline.
7. Club Quarters Hotel Downtown
It happens to the best of us. You book a staycation, but still have to sneak in a bit of work or send an email here and there.
Club Quarters is dually equipped for romance and business, so you can take care of things quickly and maximize your quality time together.
For accommodation, we love the Superior Room, which features a plush queen bed, a small kitchenette with Keurig brewer, and a multipurpose workspace for two.
Other amenities like smart TVs, room service, and unlimited drinking water round out the luxury experience.
Plus, whether you use it to join a Zoom call or stream a romantic comedy for movie night, the lightning-fast wifi here will never fail you.
8. Hotel ZaZa Houston Museum District
Funky, art-centric Hotel ZaZa finds its perfect place in Houston’s Museum District across from Hermann Park, the cultural heart of the city, and home to 19 world-class institutions, galleries, and educational centers.
So if you’re looking for romantic getaways in Houston that are utterly one-of-a-kind, then it doesn’t get much better than this.
The most fun part of the booking process is choosing from the eye-popping array of pool villas, concept suites, and ZaZa’s signature Magnificent Seven Suites, each decked out in its own theme.
Couples will feel the sparks flying in the “Affair to Remember” suite, lavishly adorned with leopard carpets, gold ceilings, chandeliers, and mirrored furniture and walls.
Between blackout shades, a soaking tub, and a fully-stocked mini-bar–there’s hardly any reason to leave the room until checkout time!
9. Margaritaville Lake Resort
Ready to waste away in Margaritaville? Slip into sandals and relax in style at this lakeside resort just an hour outside the city.
If you like playful options for date night, there’s plenty to keep you entertained here. Play a round of golf, compete in 1 v. 1 pickleball, float hand-in-hand down the lazy river, or rent kayaks and get out on Lake Conroe.
To ease your muscles after all the activities, head straight to St. Somewhere Spa, where you can indulge in couples massages, plus a selection of facials, body scrubs, and hair and nail services.
Want to nurture your connection even further? The Romantic Affair package will spice up your stay with Veuve Clicquot Champagne, red roses, and margarita-infused strawberries on arrival.
10. Magnolia Hotel Houston
Now, this is a hotel with some history. The stunning building that now houses your new favorite staycation spot was once home to the Houston Post Dispatch newspaper and later served as the corporate office for Shell Oil Company.
Today, the 1926 landmark holds on to some of that vintage charm while adding plenty of state-of-the-art amenities, like a 24-hour fitness center, rooftop pool, and decked-out accommodations.
For couples, we recommend the chic studio suite, which features a kitchenette, double vanities in the bathroom, and the plushest king bed you’ve ever dreamed of.
Date night at The Lounge is a must. Slip into something fancy and wander between the billiards room, library, and full bar before settling in at a table and splitting some decadent American dishes.
Heads up pet parents–your fur babies stay for free!
11. The Lancaster Hotel
A 1920s-era boutique hotel, The Lancaster has played host to actors, musicians, poets, and many other esteemed guests throughout its storied history.
So you already know you and your special someone will feel like royalty at this stately spot in the heart of Houston’s Theater District.
Thoughtful touches are found in your room and all around the property, like complimentary snacks and beverages, a gourmet breakfast buffet, and a private collection of 200+ pieces by contemporary Texas artists.
Spice things up with their romance package, which includes late check-out, complimentary valet parking, and sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries in your room upon arrival.
Plus, the Hobby Center, Jones Hall, Bayou Music Center, and so many other entertainment venues are within walking distance, so date night is practically planned for you!

12. The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston
We couldn’t talk about romantic hotels in Houston without a mention of this lavish getaway found amidst the upscale neighborhoods and sprawling parks of Uptown.
Designated as a Forbes 5-star hotel, The Post Oak oozes luxury. As soon as you step through the doors, you’ll be greeted by a Swarovski crystal chandelier and an extravagant artwork collection.
The ultra-modern suites feature panoramic skyline views, Egyptian cotton linens, and marble bathrooms, plus high-tech amenities like smart TVs and Technogym personal wellness racks.
During your stay, you can get couples’ treatments at the award-winning spa, primp before date night at the salon, and cuddle up in a private cabana or around a fire pit at the outdoor pool.
13. Messina Hof Winery & Resort
One look at the rolling vineyards and ornate interiors of Messina Hof, and it’s clear to see why this is one of our favorite romantic getaways from Houston.
The secluded spot is tucked away in Bryan, Texas, a historic small town 1.5 hours from central Houston.
There are only 11 suites on the property, so you’re guaranteed a quiet, intimate stay. A few are decorated to pay tribute to iconic lovers from history, like Romeo and Juliet, but our favorite is the Lancelot & Guinevere room.

This elegant Gothic abode comes complete with a 17th-century hand-carved queen-sized bed, a large whirlpool tub, and stained glass windows.
Reserve the romance package, and you’ll receive whimsical add-ons like a suite strewn with rose petals, a bottle of wine, and a winery tour and tasting for two.
This family-owned business is the most award-winning winery in the Lone Star State and one of the largest producers of 100% Texas wine, so sampling some of their bottles is an absolute must.
14. StarHill Farms Hinze Cabin
Our urban romantic getaways in Houston are luxurious, sure, but have you ever vacationed in an authentic 1800s log cabin?
Hinze has been fully restored but retains its vintage charm with reclaimed wood, custom fixtures, and beautiful antiques throughout.
We challenge you to find a cozier bedroom than the one at this property, with its sun-soaked hardwood floors and snug queen bed.
But the real star of the show is a sprawling wraparound porch with twin rocking chairs.
Look out over wide open spaces, horse pastures, and a tranquil pond as you’re enjoying your morning coffee or a glass of wine paired with an iconic Texas sunset.
Believe it or not, all this tranquility can be found just 1.5 hours from downtown Houston!
15. The Tremont House Galveston
Self-described as “a warm slice of Southern charm” right in the heart of colorful downtown Galveston, The Tremont House will have you feeling like you’ve stepped into a romantic period piece.
The plush suites are like a home away from home, although perhaps a touch more luxurious than your typical digs.
We love the elegant Deluxe Suite for couples, which sits in the original historical annex of the hotel and features high ceilings, separate living and dining areas, and a wet bar.
As evening falls, sip craft cocktails from the scenic upstairs lounge (Galveston’s only rooftop venue!), and soak in swoon-worthy sunset views of the harbor on the horizon.
Bonus: A second bar in the lobby hosts live jazz performances every weekend.
The Tremont House is hands-down one of the best weekend getaways near Houston!
16. Western Star at Rockin Star Ranch
Calling all outdoorsy couples! Of all our Houston romantic getaways, this spot is perhaps most connected with nature, nestled away at the end of a winding country road in Brenham, Texas (about 1 hour outside Houston).
Here, the pace of life slows to a crawl. Spend your days sipping coffee on the front porch, lounging by the outdoor pool, or stoking some friendly competition over lawn games like horseshoes and cornhole.
At night, cuddle around the fire pit and roast marshmallows or simply sit back and watch the stars.
If you have a particular activity in mind–from horseback riding to hayrides to a day in the life of a cowboy couple–the super accommodating hosts are happy to help organize.
17. Menger Hotel
You may be wondering–why are we including a San Antonio stay on our list of romantic getaways in Houston?
Well, the two cities are just 3 hours apart, and this charming boutique hotel is too gorgeous not to mention.
As “the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi,” Menger has been treating guests to glamorous suites and world-class service for a whopping 163 years.
We recommend one of the spacious Alamo Plaza King rooms, which feature king beds, sitting rooms, and stunning private balconies.
(Add-ons like rose bouquets, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and cheese platters are sure to score brownie points with your significant other).
For all couples that love history and culture, it doesn’t get much better than this. The Alamo will be your next-door neighbor, and a self-guided tour through the 16th-century mission is an unbeatable date idea.
And there’s plenty more history to appreciate on the property itself! Built in 1887, the onsite Menger Bar is an exact replica of the House of Lords Pub in London, all dark wood, vintage mementos, and innovative cocktails.
